WinickoffOn April 15, David Winickoff, Director of the Berkeley STS Program, appeared on the KQED radio program, “Forum with Michael Krasny,” to discuss the science and politics of geoengineering. David’s remarks emphasized that a small geoengineering research KQEDprogram might proceed given the seriousness of climate change, but only in concert with the development of governing institutions. He stressed that the most discussed large-scale approaches to “engineer” the climate — like the deployment of stratospheric dust — are not close to being deployment ready and would require international agreement.  He is currently initiating a multiyear NSF-funded project examining the legal and regulatory frameworks within which biofuels and geoengineering innovation is occurring.Find out more about his research project, and listen to the Forum broadcast.
