Research Areas

Design, Innovation, Science and Technology studies with focus on the expression and enactment of public policy in professional health care practices. My research topic is technological innovation in the Norwegian public health care system.
If your need an updated description of my PhD project:
My Ph.D. research project aims to explore the dynamics between design and use with a special focus on the unexpected consequences/effects of technological innovation, through a combination of ethnographically inspired methods and participatory design/action research. It examines the implementation of an e-messaging system for exchanging patient information following multiple calls and initiatives from the Norwegian government to improve coordination between levels of care. The project is focused on the dynamics of material artifacts and users, while also taking into consideration the role of public policy. As such, applying insights and approaches from STS and design, it explores if there are not only practical, but also political consequences of/through design: and perhaps how this can be studied through a cross-fertilization of the fields.
