Julian Ausserhofer is a digital communication researcher and an open knowledge advocate. He completed his PhD in Communication at the University of Vienna and worked as a research associate at the Institute of Journalism and PR in Graz, Austria. Julian’s focus includes computational methods in the social sciences and in journalism as well as the dynamics of social media in news and politics. In particular, he examines practices in data journalism and the interactions between users, databases, algorithms and other actors in the formation of networked publics. Julian also worked for Open Knowledge, a think/do tank promoting open data and transparency. He was a 2013 research fellow at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society in Berlin.
