Michael Pollan is the Knight Professor of Journalism at the Graduate School and director of the Knight Program in Science and Environmental Journalism. He is a contributing writer at the New York Times Magazine, and the author of five books: The Botany of Desire: A Plant's-Eye View of the World; A Place of My Own; Second Nature; In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto, and most recently, Food Rules: An Eater's Manuel. For many years he served as Executive Editor of Harper's Magazine. His writing has won numerous awards, including the Reuters/World Conservation Union Global Award in Environmental Journalism, the James Beard Award, and the Genesis Award from the American Humane Association. The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals was named one of the ten best books of 2006 by the New York Times and the Washington Post.
