Thea Sofie Melhuus Hojem is completing a doctoral thesis in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim. Her Ph.D. is a study of knowledge production and practices among consulting engineers, with a particular focus on environmental knowledge. In her project, she analyzes how consulting engineers use and produce environmental knowledge in contexts of application. She studies how this industry works by mapping how consulting engineering companies and their employees acquire and develop knowledge and information about sustainability. She also investigates how companies try to make their environmental knowledge commercially useful. Do they provide their clients with high-quality environmentally oriented expertise? What is actually considered to be environmental knowledge in their context? The project is based on in-depth interviews with consulting engineers, as well as interviews with stakeholders, clients and knowledge producers.
