What happens to representation when science moves beyond common experience?
We are pleased to invite submissions for the upcoming thematic dossier of Em Tese (Qualis A2 - Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil): "From Dante to Black Holes: The Crisis of Representation in Contemporary Science."
This issue investigates the "poetics of the unintelligble" — the formal and creative strategies emerging from the rupture between technoscientific precision and the limits of human representation. Moving from the classical "Machine of the Word" to the unobservable singularities of black holes and the algorithmic opacity of AI, we explore how literature and the arts negotiate with regimes of knowledge that defy sensory intuition and traditional narrative forms.
We welcome submissions in English, Portuguese, Spanish, or French across three categories:
- Articles: Interdisciplinary research on literature, arts, and Science and Technologies Studies (STS).
- Reviews: Critical analysis of works published within the last three years.
- Poetics: Original artistic work and visual essays investigating the limits of representation.
Key Information:
- Submission Deadline: September 30, 2026
- Journal: Em Tese (Graduate Program in Literary Studies at UFMG)
