My research explores the history and politics of technological development and knowledge production in agriculture and food systems, with an eye toward democratizing these processes. Currently, I am developing a project to analyze emerging tensions between three distinct "progressive" trajectories in US agriculture -- local food, sustainable agriculture, and food safety -- through case studies of fresh produce supply chains. I also work on the history of soil fertility science and the development of the fertilizer industry.
