Renata Barreto is pursuing a JD / PhD at Berkeley Law with a Designated Emphasis in Science and Technology Studies. Broadly, her research focuses on AI ethics, technology law, and computational social science. More specifically, Renata is interested in understanding how algorithmic bias impacts marginalized communities and developing scalable interventions for technology companies. She has interned at Twitter and Facebook, where she worked on applications of fairness in machine learning concepts, and the Center for Privacy and Technology, where she examined the impact of computer vision systems on people of color. Renata has been awarded the Tech for Social Good Fellowship, the Humanity in Action Fellowship, and the Eugene Cota-Robles Fellowship. Renata speaks Spanish, French, and Portuguese fluently.
