Chiara Cappelletto is an associate professor of aesthetics in the Department of Philosophy at the State University of Milan and a in the Department of Philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley. Her areas of research cover phenomenology, neuroaesthetics, visual and performance studies, and rhetoric. Her research interests include topics as agency, performativity, embodiment, and public discourse. She takes a materialistic and feminist approach to discuss the embodied processes by which the Self is construed through different types of media and environments. She has held the position of visiting fellow at the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America at Columbia University (NY), at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Paris, at Princeton University, and at the Kolleg-Forschergruppe BildEvidenz Geschichte und Ästhetik (Berlin). She has been an associate member at the CRAL (EHESS, Paris) and is involved in the international project IdEM—Identification, empathie, projection dans les arts du spectacle (CNRS). She won the IX Castiglioncello Philosophical Award for Young Researchers in 2005. She is the Head of PIS—Performing Identities Studies www.pis.unimi.it. Her last book is Embodying Art. How we See, Think, Feel, and Create, Columbia University Press, 2022.
