Edit a Sidebar Menu
The Sidebar menus help the user navigate the site and keep all of the content organized. These menus are generated using WordPress Widgets. To change the order of the menus, add, or delete menu items you will have to use the WordPress Widget tools.
1. On the WordPress Dashboard hover over Appearance and click on Widgets to see the different sidebar menus.
2. The CSTMS site has many different sidebar menus (People, Event Archives, News Archives, Get Involved and Documentation Menu).
The Sidebars that we are focused on editing are in the “Theme Sidebars” column.
Top Right Sidebar: the Event listings and “Get Involved” menu on the homepage.
Banner: The header links to the three sub-sites and the search field.
Subsite Navigation: Empty
Bottom-Left: Empty
Bottom-Middle: People Menu
Bottom-Right: Event listings
Sidebar: Empty
To add a new category of People, for example, click the arrow for Bottom-Middle to expand the widget and expose the text that forms the People Menu.
To delete one of these items use your cursor to highlight the text that creates the link and delete it. To add a new link copy and paste one of the existing links and then change the URL (the address between quotation-marks) and replace the text that appears as a link. When finished, click Save to ensure that the changes take effect and are live on the site.
