A grant to develop and administer a new undergraduate minor in Science, Technology, and Society was recently awarded to CSTMS by the Vice Chancellor for Research’s Office. The selection committee of the VCRO Seed Fund Program found the proposal to be “thoughtful, forward looking, and a clear enhancement to the undergraduate experience at Berkeley”.

This undergraduate minor will provide students across the humanities and social sciences, as well as those specializing in physical and biological sciences, engineering, computer science, healthcare, and policy the opportunity to draw upon strategies and insights from Science, Technology and Society studies that will help them to professionally navigate a world shaped by computing, artificial intelligence, environmental change, new medical technologies, and genetic engineering. Coursework will be complemented by the opportunity to participate in an undergraduate research symposium, an online undergraduate STS journal, undergraduate career development initiatives, and a series of digital humanities projects.
